Republican presidential candidates Jeb Bush and Donald Trump released videos yesterday attacking each other for holding views or doing things that may not sit well with many primary voters, including which one is closer to Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton.
The Bush campaign attacked Trump’s liberal leanings and ties to the Clinton family.
The YouTube video shows clips of Trump expressing liberal views including a 1999 Meet the Press interview where he calls himself “very pro-choice” and a clip from the first primary debate of this year where he says of universal health care, “It works in Canada, it works incredibly well in Scotland.”
The video spends nearly half of its 81 seconds on Trump’s ties to Clinton and the Democratic Party. In clips, Trump calls her “talented,” and says “I’ve known her and her husband for years and I really like them both a lot.”
Trump fired back on Instagram.
In 15 seconds, the Trump campaign shows Bush, then chairman of the National Constitution Center of the United States, honoring Clinton with the Liberty Medal in a 2013 ceremony which honored the former Secretary of State “in recognition of her lifelong career in public service and for her ongoing advocacy efforts on behalf of women and girls around the globe.”
It also shows former president George W. Bush calling Clinton his “sister-in-law” in a December 2014 interview with Candy Crawley. At times, Bush has called fellow former president Bill Clinton his “brother from another mother.”
For their part, the Clinton campaign seems to be enjoying the battle over which Republican loves their candidate more.
