Just because ArtPrize is still going on, doesn’t mean the rest of Grand Rapids shuts down. Here are some other things to do this weekend.
“I Almost Won at ArtPrize, the Musical!” shows at The Pyramid Scheme on Oct. 2, 3, and 4. The Pyramid Scheme is located at 68 Commerce SW. There are two showtimes each night, one at 7 p.m. and the other at 10 p.m. Prices range from $7 -$10 and the event is 18+. For more information call (616) 272-3758 or click here.
If you’re in the mood for a laugh check out Chris Barnes at Dr. Grins at the B.O.B. on the third floor, 20 Monroe AVE NW. Barnes has worked with (JJ)Jimmy Walker, Sinbad, Andrew Dice Clay and Bill Cosby just to name a few. Showtimes are 8 and 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. 10:30 shows are 21+. Tickets are $10. Frederik Meijer Gardens hosts a free Fall Bonsai Show, incorporating Japanese garden content. Event times are 10 a.m–5 p.m Oct. 3 and 11 a.m–5 p.m. Oct. 4. Frederik Meijer Gardens is located at 1000 E. Beltline Ave. At this display, you will see a variety of bonsai, ranging from trees in their earliest stages through the oldest trees. The bonsai are displayed by members from the West Michigan Bonsai Club. At this event you will be able to shop for many bonsai tools and accessories, including pots, wire and trees. Watch bonsai artists demonstrate their work and vote for your favorite.
Founder’s Taproom is host to the Grand Rapids Jazz Orchestra for free live jazz on the first Sunday of every month from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This is an all ages show. If you are over the age of 21 Sunday night is also service industry night. Prove your employment and get $1.25 off all pints. Founder’s is located at 235 Grandville Ave. SW
