The Grand Rapids Symphony is performing Mahler’s “Titan” at the DeVos Performance Hall this weekend. “Titan” is a presentation of “Mahler’s first symphony”, starting with John Harbison’s “Remembering Gatsby” (Foxtrot for Orchestra) and Mozart’s “Violin Concerto No. 5.” This performance is meant to take the listener on a ride through the entire spectrum of human emotion. The show begins at 8 p.m. Oct. 23-24 at DeVos Performance Hall. General admission starts at $18, but full time students get in for $5.
BaCon returns to the DeltaPlex for the third year this Saturday. The bacon and beer celebration runs from 3-8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct 24. This is a walking around, tasting event featuring bacon inspired dishes and drinks. BaCon awards pro and amateur chefs with the Fine Swine Award that goes to the best dish and the Sueyeet Eats Award that is for most creative dish. A portion of the proceeds go to Kids’ Food Basket, a West Michigan organization. General admission to the event is $20 and includes 10 sample tickets. The Bacon Master is $40 and includes 20 sample tickets and a limited edition BaCon apron.
Vox Vidorra, an indie/soul band from Grand Rapids, will be performing at the Cascade branch of the Kent District Library, 2870 Jacksmith Ave. at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct 25. The performance is part of a six show series titled Sunday Afternoon Live, and the show is free.
Head to The Landing, 270 Ann St. NW, for Sunday Night Funnies at 8:30 p.m. The show is free with a two-drink minimum. Anyone over the age of 18 can attend. Stick around after the comedy show for karaoke until 11:30 p.m. Winner gets a free shirt. The Landing also has live music from 8:30 p.m.-1 a.m. every Saturday.
