Make the cold, autumn evenings enjoyable this weekend by throwing in a little salsa dancing, arts, craft and cup of tea in an authentic Japanese teahouse. Read on for the rundown of weekend happenings.
Salsa night with Sergio and Cecilia at Pietro’s Night Club takes place 10 p.m.-2 a.m. every Saturday. Pietro’s is the longest continuously run salsa club in West Michigan, and is known as a friendly environment to dance and socialize. There is a complimentary salsa lesson from 10-10:30 p.m. The event is for patrons 21+ and admission is $8. There are food and drink specials and the kitchen is open until midnight. A casual dress code is enforced, no work boots, t-shirts or shorts are permitted.
St. Paul’s Church, 2560 Lake Michigan Dr, is hosting their annual free arts and crafts fair 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7. There will be more than 20 exhibitors and a bake sale. A light breakfast and lunch will be available to guests and the event is handicapped accessible.
An authentic Japanese teahouse is a featured highlight of the recently added Japanese garden exhibit at Frederik Meijer Gardens. This teahouse was constructed in Japan, dismantled and shipped to Grand Rapids and reassembled using traditional Japanese tools and techniques. Shoes are not allowed in the house, so it is suggested that visitors bring clean socks. Admission is $12 for adults, $9 for students with I.D. and the exhibit is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.
“Macabre” is a community-focused exhibition at the UICA Galleries. More than 20 Michigan artists’ works will be on display until 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29. “Macabre” incorporates themes and imagery from Halloween and Dia de los Muertos. Admission is $5 and the exhibit can be viewed noon-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon-6 p.m. Sunday.
The Land Conservancy of West Michigan is partnering with 9 local artists to showcase “Preserved!” an exhibit highlighting awareness and conservation of West Michigan’s natural resources and wildlife. The artwork can be viewed for free at Calvin College’s (106) Studio, 106 South Division Ave. 1-6 p.m. every Friday.
